In contrast

Farming is the main economic actitivity of the residents of Tubo, Abra Means of farming remains backward however, despite the presence of a few hand held tractors, most farmers still use cows and carabaos to plow the fields. The tractor's fuel is very expensive, residents say. Farmers here also have a hard time transporting their produce because road networks are intermittently cut by the Abra River. The river is impassable during rainy season as the water rises. Photo by: Kim Quitasol/NORDIS Photo

Left photo: Where have all the Presidents' men and women gone? Obviously a flop, the first ever rally of support to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in Baguio City is attended by some political leaders led by Baguio Congressman Mauricio Domogan (LAKAS) sans however their constituents. Noticeable even is, there were even more mayors from far flung Abra province ( 8 mayors) than mayors in Benguet and barangay officials of Baguio. Photo by: Ace Alegre/NORDIS Photo

Right Photo: Despite earlier pronouncements of city officials, that majority of residents here still support President Gloria Macapagal–Arroyo, more and more sectors are joining the local chapter of the Gloria Step down Movement (GSM). Shown in the above picture are members of Youth DARe, one of the affiliate member of GSM.

COMMUNITY DOCTORS. Doctors and medical professionals from CHESTCORE and COMMED braved crossing the mighty Abra River and rugged roads leading to Barangay Tubtuba, Tubo, Abra to give free medical and dental services and medicines to residents affected by the recent military operations here. The said barangay is just one of the hundreds of interior communities in the country deprived of health care services and facilities. Photos by: Kim Quitasol/NORDIS Photos
