DUNGAW, a successful exhibit

Heavy rain and loud cracks of thunder was never a noticeable hindrance for those who witnessed the opening of DUNGAW last March 22, featuring the art works of six artists from the University of the Philippines on a two-week multi media art exhibit.

The show was supposed to start at five in the afternoon, but due to some minor problems it was delayed and only began around six in the evening. The exhibit started with a brief talk from renowned film artist Kidlat Tahimik about the Victor Oteyza Community Arts Space (VOCAS), the venue of the exhibit. It was then followed by an introduction on the six minds behind the exhibit. Ma’am Lagasca described the exhibits as, “full of surprises.” The show opened with a ceremony, the bathing of a “Bolol” by Ma’am Lagasca and Kidlat Tahimik.

They said they promote post modernism. Their musical idols, indigenous peoples, and animals inspired their art. Lek used his daughter for one of his pictures.

The food was nice, their paintings were great, and the prices were fair enough. I had a great time in VOCAS. May the blazing bulalakaws have more success in their work. # Jullian W. Okubo for Nordis
