MUSHROOM FARM

Agrofoods Industries is the biggest mushroom plantation in the Cordillera supplying the local market, restaurants, and fast food chains of Baguio-Benguet and National Capital Region (NCR). An employee in this mushroom farm in Shilan, La Trinidad earns on the average P190 pesos a day, the minimum wage in the region and lives inside the farm premises. However, their wages are not enough to cope up with the soaring prices of basic commodities. Even their 8 by 10 feet living quarters provided by the management is not enough ( left photo). Hay also serves as a vital component in growing mushroom. Heaps of mushroom could easily be seen outside the mushroom plantation (right photo).
