CORDILLERA DAY 2005
Buanao, Bangilo, Malibcong, Abra
April 23-24, 2005

The road may have been long, winding, and yes, dangerous, but delegates did not mind. Rivers and ricefields greeted over 6,000 individuals to the 21st Cordillera Day celebration in Buanao village. Delegates, who traveled at most 15 hours from their places of origin, were met with warm greetings and firm handshakes by Buanao folk, making the long trip worth it. Photos by Abi Bengwayan, Art Allad-iw, and Joan Villanueva

A tribute to Cordillera and Ilocos martyrs was held during the main celebration on April 24. Cultural presentations from the region’s five provinces, including those from other national and international delegates were presented. Cordillera elders, such as Petra Macli-ing of Mt. Province, shared their rich experiences for the defense of land, life and resources. The echo of gongs and chants kept the night alive.
