In the wushu taolu (forms) race, the 16-man team gave their coaches Patrick Joseph Cueto, Jake Massagan and Doyle Intas every reason to be proud as they bagged 11 golds, 7 silver and 3 bronzes. Above the unnerving hot climate in this city of smiles, the Baguio youngsters snapped out perfect forms all the way to victory in their respective Wushu age brackets.
Twelve year old Faith Liana Andaya pocketed three golds in the girls San lu (barehands), jianshu (straight sword) and (qiangshu) spear events respectively. 10 year old Aleca Breana Dumseng bagged two silvers in the girls San lu and gunshu (broadsword) and a gold in the gunshu (staff) exhibitions.
In the elementary boys division, coach Jake Massagan said all the kids did their best and produced most fulfilling results of nearly five months rigorous trainings at home (Baguio).
Eight year old Dencel Julius Parantac snatched the gold from 7 fellows in the boy’s sanlu event. First time to compete in the national games, 11 year old Ranyag Anthony Quitasol also grabbed the silver in gunshu and the bronze in sanlu rounds.
Another newbie to the games is 7 year old Thomas Leung who finished a triumphant 5th in sanlu and 4th in gunshu. And, 10 year old Alexander Florendo’s smooth performance in the boy’s quiangshu event landed him the 4th place.
Batang Pinoy veteran CN Lapitan meanwhile swayed his way in the barehands and long weapon respectively pocketting two silvers, and the gold in the straight sword events. One favorite face in this martial arts discipline, Vanessa Jo Chan ran away with two golds in barehands and spear events.
Hazel Angela Dalisay had the gold in barehands and silver in the short weapon. Joel Casem-two golds for short weapons and barehands. Bruce Tinaud – bronze barehands. IRA Terado – bronze long weapon. Aiene Leigh Terado- silver barehands. Hannah Thea Bagorio and another newbie Shanaya Pascual also proved their worth and look forward for a break in the next competition.
Coach Doyle Intas said the kids did their best and made their coaches, team mates and the city of Baguio really proud. He said the difficulties they went through during their preparations are now nothing to the worth of the honor they earned in this competition. # nordis.net
