Baguio students’ day moved to October

BAGUIO CITY — Due to the unfavorable weather conditions last Sept. 21-22, the activities in line with the Baguio Youth Day by the theme “Baguio Youth Day stand against Corruption: Unite for Our Rights!” is re-scheduled to October 14-16, 2013. Baguio Students’ Day, the first of its kind in the city, aims to celebrate the vibrancy and the enthusiasm of Baguio youth in its commitment for a better Baguio and a better society as a whole, said Tracy Dumalo of Anakbayan.
The event will start on October 14 with the opening of different booths organized by different youth and student organizations. Meanwhile on October 15 there will be storybook reading sessions open to children as well as different workshops on indigenous musical instruments and theater open to all. A concert entitled “Haranang Bayan para sa Pagbabago” aims to showcase different musical groups in the city in a jam for change.
Also, youth organizations are encouraged to participate in exhibits with topics concerning the youth such as 1) on Gangsterism, Fraternities, and Drugs 2) on Environment 3) on Education 4) on Children and many others. There will be a contest on the best booths with corresponding cash prizes to be awarded at the concert.
The event is organized by Cordillera Youth Center, National Union of Students of the Philippines Baguio-Benguet, College Editors Guild of the Philippines, Anakbayan Metro Baguio and Dap-ayan ti Kultura iti Kordilyera (Peoples’ Center for Cordillera Culture) in partnership with the Baguio City Council’s Committee on Education, Culture and Historical Research.
