Isabela under state of calamity
ILAGAN, Isabela (Nov. 9) — The Provincial government yesterday declared the province under state of calamity due to damages brought by typhoon ‘Kabayan’ Sunday night that hit directly nine of the 35 towns in Isabela.
The provincial board headed by Vice-governor Ramon Reyes during its regular session to declare the province under state of calamity when nine of its central and northern towns were hit by typhoon Kabayan and left some towns under floodwaters.
The Provincial Disaster Coordinating Committee (PDCC), which assessed the extent of damages brought by typhoon Kabayan said the typhoon left five dead and one missing and 2,000 affected families evacuated due to floods.
The PDCC reported an estimated P90.71 million worth of rice and corn crops were also damaged including some infrastructure projects.
A total of 2,300 hectares of rice land and 6,972 hectares of corn lands were underwater when Kabayan hit Isabela especially near the rivers and creeks, according to PDCC.
In Cauayan City, the electric cooperative has initially restored power in Poblacion. The ISELCO management said it will take a week or more to restore power in rural areas.
