John Panem January 26, 2006 The problem we all face here is that a fake president is leading the country and she is exhausting every possible chance of stretching her term as she is very insecure to start with. Youth Demanding Arroyo’s Removal is firm in its position that the only sincere way to salvage this country is to, first, oust the Arroyo regime, then, establish a transition council where every marginalized sector will be genuinely represented in the government. The Constitutional Commission’s proposals will make a bad constitution worse. It will make easy the compliance to the World Trade Organization’s services liberalization requisite, which when translated, means unrestrained manipulation and disregard of our national patrimony. The provision for the cancellation of the 2007 election is not only intended to pacify the growing political distrust among the members of the congress but also to push forward the US agenda of exploiting RP’s natural resources. Much to YOUTH DARe’s surprise, provisions in the 1987 constitution with regard to prioritizing education (Article II, Section 17) and on the role of the youth in nation-building (Artide II, Section 13) will be detected. We seek change not in the surface level but in the core of this unanimously-admitted problematic republic. The proposed charter change is a tactic to keep GMA in power. Now that the threats of destabilization are becoming evidential, GMA is wooing the incumbent officials with the perpetuation of tenure. The real problem is not the form of government but a conflict of interest among those who are in power. As noted, part of the problem of this government is that interest-driven business men represent the poor majority; government officials, especially the president, misrepresent its people. To make sure that the endeavor for change would be a community dance, YOUTH DARe will hold series of protest actions and massive information campaigns to oppose the efforts of the ConCom in deceiving the people about the so-called advantages of the proposed charter and to persist calls for Arroyo’s ouster. Protests are also being planned to coincide with the upcoming tuition hikes consultation on February. # Post your comments, reactions to this article |
