Abra folk blame AFP for peasant death |

BAGUIO CITY (June 16) — Relatives of an Abra peasant killed last April 16 blamed the Alpha Coy of the 41st Infantry Battalion (IB), Philippine Army (PA)-Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in Gusing, Boliney, Abra. According to Abra Human Rights Alliance (AHRA), John Maximo, 37 a resident of Baoyan, Boliney, married with eight children, was found dead last April 17 in his rice field in Gusing about five kilometers from his barangay. Maximo reportedly went to his rice field on April 16 to clear their rice paddy, according to AHRA. He was expected but failed to come home. The following day, one of the victim’s nephews who went to check found Maximo’s body. He noticed bruises and contusions all over the victim’s body; his arms bore handcuff marks and his neck broken. Relatives claimed they saw three platoons of the 41st IB operating towards Baoyan during that time. Maximo’s neighbors and relatives immediately reported the incident to the municipal mayor and municipal police. “Until today justice has not yet been served,” AHRA said in a statement. # via NORDIS Post your comments, reactions to this article |
