Ilocos solon’s fury alarms airport crew

LAOAG CITY (May 2) — Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Roque R. Ablan Jr. alarmed airport personnel when he fired his rifle on April 24 at the Laoag City International Airport.
Witnesses said the congressman was allegedly furious that the Philippine Airline was not allowed to park in front of the terminal building. Ablan was at the airport to welcome his guests on board the chartered plane.

However, Ablan said he did not intend to cause panic. He explained that he just wanted to get the pilot’s attention and signal him to park at the terminal area.# Jay-ar Gervacio for NORDIS

Jueteng back in Laoag City

LAOAG CITY (Apr. 24) — Michael V. Fariñas gave Laoag City Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Supt. Reynante Partible one week to come up with a conclusive report regarding the comeback of jueteng operation in most towns of Ilocos Norte, including Laoag City.

Fariñas said that if jueteng resumed in the city, it must be stopped. However, he added that it is premature to “speak conclusively” about the resumption of jueteng because he does not know the details yet.

Fariñas said he has not yet .received reports from Partible as of press time.

Meanwhile, Fariñas expressed strong support for small town lottery saying that the number game will provide jobs for displaced jueteng workers and additional revenues to local government units. # Jay-ar Gervacio for NORDIS
