Baguio City Council defers ATB endorsement |
||
BAGUIO CITY (April 25) — The Baguio City Council deferred any action on the request of the Romblon Sangguniang Panlalawigan to endorse its resolution asking for the immediate passage of the anti-terrorism bills (ATB) still pending in the Senate. City Councilor Jose M. Molintas, Committee on Human Rights, Justice, Public Protection and Safety chair, explained that the deferment of the endorsement is appropriate as Congress failed to clear the meaning of terrorism. Both houses failed to come out with a consolidated bill on anti-terrorism. The House already approved its anti-terror bill but the Senate still deliberates on its version. The Romblon provincial board, in a resolution, endorsed the early passage and approval of the anti-terror bill. It asked the City Council to adopt its position but the city council decided to see the outcome of the consolidated bills before its action. “I will agree to pass the ATB but congress should clarify first the definition of terrorism,” Molintas said adding that it might be trampling on people’s rights. # Rohmalyne Gamponia and Adela Ragual/MMSU Interns for NORDIS Post your comments, reactions to this article |
