Marky joins Lang-ay |

BAGUIO CITY (Mar.15) — The GMA 7 Network confirmed the attendance of the first sole Starstruck survivor Marky Cielo to his province’s Lang-ay festival on April 2 to 8, according to Mountain Province Provincial Administrator Paolo Pagtilan. Department of Tourism Regional Director Purification S. Molintas said Marky who is from Bauko, will now be the star endorser of the Cordillera. The Lang-ay (a Kankanaey term for oneness or get together) festival aims to highlight the rich culture and traditions of the Mt. Province through the street dancing and cultural parade which will feature the first ever “Parada ng mga Gusi” (parade of jars). Five to ten antique jars from Bontoc, filled with tapey or rice wine will be paraded in the event. Instead of a one-day celebration like last year, the second Lang-ay Festival is a weeklong celebration this year. Pagtilan said they have learned from the lapses in the first Lang-ay last year. These motivated them to improve this year’s celebration. The activities include musical plays, Igorot ethnic attire competition, Miss Mt. Province pageant, cultural presentations from the different municipalities of the province, indigenous food cooking, booth decorations, demonstrations of farm activities, and pig catching contests. The province will also host the up coming Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) and the Regional Development Councils meeting on the same week. Meanwhile, Molintas referred the Lang-ay Festival as a ‘complete’ celebration where sports, culture and arts are integrated for the event. # Katherine del Rosario and Rhea Urbano/UP Interns for NORDIS Post your comments, reactions to this article |
