Missing Cagayano student goes home

BAGUIO CITY (Feb. 7) — A student of Baggao National Agricultural School (BNAS) reported missing during an educational trip here since Friday (Feb. 3) night last week was at last home.

Instead of touring and exploring the different tourist spots in the city, BNAS faculty and staff together with the city police were busy looking for Roderick Jose, 19 years old from Awallan, Baggao, Cagayan.

Mayor Braulio Yaranon had recently ordered city police officers to help in searching Jose.

Jose and his classmate Ralph Julius Lapada, both BNAS 4th year students, were in a bicycle stall in Burnham at around 10 PM when they were allegedly attacked by Jack O-Acob, the stall caretaker.

The two students were allegedly accused of stealing a bicycle. Witnesses said that O-Acob punched Lapada’s face while Jose escaped from their attacker.

The teachers pleaded the stall caretaker not to hurt Lapada. They negotiated to just pay the amount of the stolen bicycle if ever the students did the stealing.

Afterwards, they noticed that Jose was not in the group. They searched for him inside the buses, but he was not found. The teachers then asked assistance from the city government to help them find Jose.

The city police officers investigating the incident brought O-Acob to custody for further investigation. Police officers also photocopied Jose’s identification card and posted it on different places in the city.

After four days of searching, Jose’s parents informed the city police office through phone call that their son went home last Feb. 7, Tuesday. The student had not yet disclosed what had really happened during the days he was missing. # Angely Lubo and Florence Batawang/UP Interns for NORDIS
