Rose is the flower for Valentine’s Day

By JOHNNY FIALEN

For many years, rose is the favorite gift for Valentines Day especially lovers.

Rose is the favorite because it is beautiful, sweet scented and with different colors with corresponding meanings.

According to the research of Roseanne Bahod, a student from Tomay, La Trinidad every color of a single rose has a meaning.

Red means romantic love, beauty, courage and to wish for the best. It could also mean, “I love you”. On the other hand, dark red means unconscious beauty.

White stands for purity, innocence, humility and youthfulness. It could also be translated as “I am worthy of you,” while bridal white means happy love.

Pink means appreciation, gratitude, perfect happiness and gentle love or it could mean “please believe me”. Light pink on the other hand is for admiration and sympathy.

Yellow stands for happiness, friendship, a new beginning or even jealousy. Orange is for desire.

Bahod further said that Valentines Day is the time to find a “Valentino” or “Valentina,” who sometimes may end up one’s lifetime partner.

“It is the time to start anew, rekindle love for each other because February 14 is a day to share and experience love with the one you cherish most and people should share their love to the one they love most. Most gifts received by girls and boys during Valentine’s Dayare flowers and mostly roses because they represents meaning of love. Besides, it has become a habit already even if it is expensive,” she said.

According to Joselito Laveria, a 28-year old government employee based in Manila, Valentines Day happens only once a year so it should be spent with joy and love with someone special. “We should also reiterate that love is not a game, it is a serious thing that we should not take for granted,” he said.

Laveria agreed that many people like roses for Valentine’s Day because its beauty and fragrance.

(Rose is expensive during valentines but that will not count; what is important is to make him/her feel that you love him/her) Because when it comes to love you don’t count the cost,” he ended.

According to Cesar Alejo, 45, flower vendor, they have to prepare dozens of roses on Valentine’s Day because it is the most common flower bought. The price of roses ranges from P80 to P120 per dozen during Valentine’s Day.

Indeed, roses are truly the most in demand flower for the month of February. # Johnny Fialen for NORDIS
