DOST offer loans to small business

TABUK, Kalinga (Jan. 13) — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Kalinga is assisting qualified and interested entrepreneurs through the Small Enterprise Technical Upgrading Program (SET-UP), giving priority on furniture making, gifts, textile and handicraft production and food processing.

DOST Provincial Director Alfredo Rigonan said through SET-UP DOST is providing soft loans to individuals or groups with three years of continuous business. He said this requirement would assure the capability of the small medium enterprise (SME) to maintain their business and pay the loan.

Rigonan further said that loans are given in terms of technology acquisition or production machineries and trainings and paid with 0% interest depending on the agreement within a maximum of four years. Interested applicants are recommended to submit proposals for assessment.

In 2004, DOST-Kalinga was able to assist four SME’s in the province. These are the Almaciga Resin Varnish Production, Praj Furniture Shop, Lamagan Furniture Shop, and the Kalinga Woodworks and Furniture Association Inc. # Gigi Dumallig/PIA-Kalinga
