3.4 quake shooks Baguio City

BAGUIO CITY (Jan. 11) — An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.4 at the Richter scale hit Baguio City 4 last Tuesday, January 6 at 7:13 in the evening.

According to Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), possible source of earthquake is the splay of Philippine fault zone. Phivolcs located its epicenter at 13 kilometers northeast of Baguio City with a shallow depth of focus.

Lawrence Arteza, a Phivolcs science research assistant, articulated that the earthquake was within the vicinity of Baguio only and had caused no damage at all. There is no need to be alarmed since there were no expected aftershocks, he added.

Arteza further said that city residents should not panic because the earthquake was minor and precautionary measures are unnecessary. # Keith Sison & Ma. Elena Dionisio
