The province received a project grant of P100,000 and a crown. The CROWN award is given to a municipality, city or province that has been implementing a nutrition plan for three consecutive years. Using the International Reference Standards (IRS) to determine the nutritional status of children, the province reported that the prevalence of underweight school children decreased from 10.0% in 2003 to 7.9% in 2004, significantly lower than the 2003 national prevalence of preschool malnutrition at 26.9%. “To eradicate malnutrition, political leaders should focus more
on interventions based on people and not on infrastructure projects,”
