Baguio multi-sectoral group holds prayer vigil for truth

BAGUIO CITY (Oct. 7) — The Baguio City Multi-Sectoral Group, led a prayer vigil at the Christian Renewal Center here on October 6 in anticipation for the arrest of Bro. Eddie Villanueva of the Jesus is Lord and presidential candidate during the 2004 elections.

According to Atty. Alex Bangsoy, the group upholds the struggle for truth and does not seek to advance a particular political ideology, saying that truth has no political ideology.

Church people, professionals, youth groups and peoples organizations joined the prayer vigil.

Jeanette Ribaya-Cawiding of the Gloria Step-down Movement (GSM) in an interview said GSM supported the said activity because the group recognizes the need for unity, especially in this time of political crisis. She said the task of resolving the problems of the country today is so big that it needs the participation of all affected sectors.

The said group also supported Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Brig. Gen. Franscisco Gudani and Lt. Col. Alexander Balutan for testifying about the massive fraud during the 2004 elections.

According to national daily reports, Gudani and Balutan testified against the electoral fraud involving Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Bangsoy said that Villanueva on the other hand faces trumped up charges intended to silence him. He added that Villanueva uncovered evidence of the massive cheating in the past elections.

University of the Philippines Baguio Professor and Gudani’s sister Fanny Claur disclosed during the said activity that she fears for her brother’s life. She added that her brother’s supposed retirement bash at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) was cancelled due to his testimony.

Claur, however, said that her brother is still in high spirits because of overwhelming support from retired and even incumbent generals of the AFP.

After the prayer vigil, the group launched a signature campaign for the support of Gudani, Balutan and Villanueva. # via NORDIS
