Mayor, PNP given 5 days to arrest suspects TINGLAYAN, Kalinga (Sept. 27) — Elders of Bontoc, Mt. Province requested Tinglayan Mayor Johnny Maymaya and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Tinglayan and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) officers, on Monday, September 26 to re-arrest within five days the suspects on the killing of a Bontoc native early this month. Two suspects who were detained at the Tinglayan Municipal Jail for the murder of Percieval K. Soliba, 26, of Poblacion, Bontoc, were reportedly missing when a team of the PNP-MP led by the Provincial Director William Aspilan went to serve the warrant of arrest on September 26. In an earlier Bontoc PNP report, Soliba was killed on September 2 at the provincial plaza of Mountain Province. Same reports said that the victim obtained 35 stab wounds. PNP investigation later identified Fag-ay Walis and Cosme Guyang of the Basao tribes of Tinglayan as suspects. Concerned officials of Tinglayan, peace pact holders and elders cooperated with the PNP for the immediate surrender and arrest of the suspects. The barangay officials of Lup-lupa and Basao executed affidavits pinpointing Walis and Guyang as the perpetrators of the above crime. On September 14, the suspects extra-judicially confessed to have killed the victim. They were detained at the Tinglayan Municipal Jail. # Joseph Pangket for NORDIS |
