Parent complains of LCMCo hospital’s practice |
||||
MANKAYAN, Benguet (July 13) — A parent here who had her 4-year old daughter confined at the Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company (LCMCo) hospital on July 9 complained that the attending pediatrician did not inform her of her child’s state, but had the child confined for four days without conducting any test. Marcelina Licab Bannatao had her daughter, May Joy, confined when blood started oozing from the child’s nose on July 9. Bannatao said her child also suffered from high fever. The child’s body was ridden with black and blue rashes, and her tongue was swollen. The attending physician, Dr. Leo T. Reginaldo, only told Bannatao that the child is undergoing observation. Bannatao requested that her child be transferred to the Bontoc General Hospital (BoGH) since it is near their hometown of Bangad, Tinglayan, Kalinga. Reginaldo allegedly refused, saying that they are still observing the conditions of the child. But according to Bannatao, tests were not conducted to determine May Joy’s conditions, and that they were only told that May Joy’s blood was contaminated. The doctor allegedly told Bannatao that she should be thankful that a child specialist is attending to her daughter. May Joy was confined at the hospital’s isolation room. May Joy was discharged from the company hospital in the afternoon of
July 13. Volunteer doctors and nurses of the Community Health Education,
Services and Training in the Cordillera Region (CHESTCORE), who conducted
a check up upon the child’s release from the hospital, said that
the child should be confined at hospitals with adequate facilities to
determine her illness and ensure her treatment. May Joy is currenly confined
at the Benguet General Hospital (BGH). # Aldwin Quitasol for
