Good governance tops my list of deeds — Yaranon

BAGUIO CITY (July 1) — Mayor Braulio Yaranon is convinced his administration succeeded in promoting good governance for the first year of his term in office.

This he declared in a press conference last July 1 at Rosebowl Restaurant here, where he delivered the State of the City Address.

The mayor mentioned he was able to curb graft and corruption at least within the City Hall, which includes addressing the anomalies at the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) and business permit processing. He added that his office also eradicated unnecessary expenses of the city government, such as the purchase of curtains which usually amounts to P8,000.

Yaranon further said that the CTO was able to increase its collections from businesses and licenses this year.

He also mentioned that when he assumed office he cancelled the permit of Royal Highland and Gaming Company, which stopped the supposed operation of a casino at Camp John Hay. He also acknowledged the help of different sectors led by the church, who staged protest actions against the said casino.

The mayor also noted that civil society’s participation in development planning has improved during his term. Yaranon stressed that no administration would succeed if not for the cooperation of the citizenry.

In this regard, he appealed to the Baguio citizenry to continue supporting the city government in its programs.

“With this humble start, the city government would be able to implement its advocacy,” he said.

Vice Mayor Peter Rey Bautista, in a separate interview said the mayor’s performance was “pretty good” but there are still other problems to be solved. He mentioned the garbage and traffic problem of the city in particular. # Kim Quitasol for NORDIS, with reports from Abigail Bengwayan
