ATeen Response Center inilunsad

BAGUIO CITY (Mayo 16)- Naging matagumpay ang paglulunsad ng kauna-unahang “Teen Response Center” ng pamahalaang panlunsod na pinamagatang “Itanong mo kay Bonjing”.

Si Bonjing ay isang “Cyberfriend” na maaari umanong i-e-mail ng mga kabataan sa lungsod hinggil sa anumang problemang kanilang kinakaharap sa kanilang sekswalidad, mga kaibigan, at pakikipagrelasyon.

Ayon kay City Population Officer Zenaida Quijana, dalawang malalaking paaralan ang magsisilbing “Pilot Areas” ng naturang proyekto sa lungsod tulad ng University of the Philippines Baguio at Baguio City National High School.

Bukod sa e-mail, inilunsad rin kahapon ang Bonjing Hotline na 442-60-21.

Para naman sa mga kabataang nahihiya magpadala ng e-mail o tumawag sa hotline number, maaari silang maghulog ng sulat sa mga “Bonjing Hotlines” na matatagpuan sa mga nabanggit na paaralan.

Tiniyak ni Quijana na magiging “Confidential” lahat ng problemang ikokonsulta ng mga kabataan kay Bonjing”.

Hinikayat ni Quijana ang mga kabataan na makipag-ugnayan kay Bonjing sa Bonjing@Baguio.gov.ph. #

Maternal death rate, mababa

BAGUIO CITY (Mayo 19) — Umabot sa 31 sa bawat 100,000 kababaihan ang “Maternal Death Rate” dito sa lungsod.

Ito ang inihayag kahapon ni Lolita Dicang, Midwifery Division Chief ng Baguio Health Department.

Ayon kay Dicang, ang National Maternal Death Rate ay umaabot sa 170 sa bawat 100,000.

Aniya, ang mababang “death rate” ng kababaihang nanganganak sa lungsod ay maaaring dulot na ng “accessibility” at “availability” ng mga serbisyong pangkalusugan dito kumpara sa ibang bahagi ng bansa.

Dagdag pa ni Dicang, kung tutuusin kahit sa bilang ng pagamutan ay nangunguna na ang lungsod ng Baguio.

Karamihan umano sa malalang klase ng komplikasyon sa panganganak o pagbubuntis ay matagumpay pa ring naaagapan dahil malapit ang mga ospital sa lungsod.

Samantala, nanawagan si Dicang sa mga babaeng nagdadalantao na siguraduhing nasa normal ang kanilang hemoglobin count upang maiwasan ang mga problemang idudulot ng posibleng pagdurugo sa oras ng panganganak. # Rowena Caccam/DzEQ

Mayor reiterates order on fumigation activities

BAGUIO CITY (May 27) — Mayor Braulio Yaranon last week reiterated an earlier order for the City Health Office here to undertake fumigation activities to prevent outbreak of diseases caused by insects and pests.

In his memorandum to Dr. Florencio Reyes, the mayor said that the fogging and spraying activities should be conducted in different sections of the city to eliminate mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches and other insects that spread dengue, malaria, typhoid, and other diseases especially with the advent of the rainy season.

The city health department earlier advised the public to adopt preventive measures against influenza, dengue fever, hepatitis-A, cholera and typhoid fever. The said diseases are commonly spread during the rainy reason.

In a health advisory, the city emphasized the importance of good nutrition and maintenance of good personal hygiene and cleanliness of the environment in preventing these illnesses. # Aileen Refuerzo/PIO

Solid waste management recycling workshop held

BAGUIO CITY (May 27) — Pinsao Proper Barangay conducted a Solid Waste Management-Recycling Workshop at the barangay hall last May 23-26.

The workshop aimed to educate the residents on the importance of waste segregation that the city started to implement in compliance with Republic Act 9003 or Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

The implementation of the said act tasked barangay captains to educate their constituents on the importance of wage management and the consequences the barangay will suffer if waste segregation is not implemented.

Further, it was noted that reduction of solid wastes at the household level is translated to benefit the city and the environment because these wastes can be turned into useful income generating activities. # Jeole Teofilo/PIO

Families of Byron bus mishap receive assistance

BAGUIO CITY (May 27) — The city government through the Office of the City Social Welfare and Development’s Regular Aids to Individual in Crisis Situation Funds (RAICSF) gave financial support to beneficiaries of victims of the Byron bus accident last May 11.

It can be recalled that 29 passengers were killed and 15 others were injured when a Dagupan City-bound Byron bus slam into a concrete rampart at Badiwan, Tuba, Benguet. Of the 29 fatalities, 24 died on the spot.

Thirty nine beneficiaries received P2, 500 each. While the families of baby Girl Natavio and Cristina Natavio both dead and Freddie Tayan injured did not receive their assistance yet. The families of the said victims are advised to bring their legal papers to support their claims.

The same office also extended the same amount of financial aid to 42 families involved in the April 2 vehicular accident at Rabon, San Fabian, Pangasinan where most victims where from Ognasan, Loakan. # June Bacbac/PIO
