Kalinga holds paralegal training |
||
TABUK, Kalinga (May 27) — Over 50 individuals from Kalinga’s different towns attended the provincial paralegal training organized by the Cordillera Human Rights Alliance (CHRA) and Cordillera Peoples Alliance (CPA) here recently. On the first day, CHRA Deputy Secretary General Jude Baggo discussed the nation and the region’s human rights situation, followed by a discussion on the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and the International Humanitarian Law (CARH-RIHL) by CHRA Secretary General Atty. Randy Kinaud. An input on the rights related to arrest, searches, trial, and imprisonment was also given. Workshops on fact sheet and affidavit-writing were conducted on the second day to equip the locals in documenting human rights violations in their respective communities. The participants agreed to file a petition per village, calling for the pullout of the 21st and 77th Infantry Brigades, since most human rights violations here are due to them, including the death of Victor Balais in 2003. The village of Tanglag in Lubuagan town has already filed its petition which it submitted to municipal government. The paralegal training was held at the Kalinga Consultative Body (KaCB) office. # Jimmy Suwagon for NORDIS |
