LCMCo guards’ benefits not yet secure

BAGUIO CITY (May 19) — The Lepanto Security Force Union’s (LSFU) economic proposals in their Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiations with Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company (LCMCo) remains hanging as the company insisted to subject it to further discussion.

In a conciliation meeting held on May 19 at the National Mediation and Conciliation Board-Cordillera Administrative Region (NCMB-CAR); both the negotiating panels of LSFU and LCMCo agreed only on the security risk pay (hazard pay). Both parties set it at P8 a day from the previous P6 a day in the 2001-2003 CBA. The hazard pay is already included in their basic pay.

During the said meeting, LCMCo proposed that the formula for the computation of the basic pay per day of workers would be daily rate x 314.6 days divided by 12 months. The LSFU on the other hand proposed daily rate x 365 days divided by 12 months. At present, the minimum basic pay of a security guard is P349.50. They are receiving P9, 162. 725 a month.

The parties also agreed that all common provisions of the CBA of the Lepanto Employees Union (LEU) with the management will be granted to LSFU, for instance, the granting of medical trust fund. However it is subjected to verification and approval of the management. Other provisions from the past CBA will be adopted.

LCMCo and LSFU also agreed that the case of Unfair Labor Practices (ULP) filed by the union against the company will still be entertained under the provisions of the labor law.

Meanwhile, LSFU still supports LEU on its labor dispute against the company. # Aldwin Quitasol for NORDIS
