Arts workshop for Abra youth held

BANGUED, Abra (Apr. 14) — Around 70 school children and 10 youths here are currently participating in a Summer Arts Workshop sponsored by the municipal government headed by Mayor Ma. Zita Clasutro Valera.

The workshop, which started on March 7, aims to enhance the artistic talents of the young Abrenios. Valera said she came up with this project to keep the youths away from vices during the vacation period. This is also preparatory to her plans of creating a children’s art club in the province.

The workshops are being held at the banks of the Abra River—under the shades of cogon huts constructed during the Arya Abra Festival.

One highlight of the workshop is the introduction of the participants to installation art. And to further influence their artistic inclinations, the participants are also set to visit the Gabriela Silang Art Gallery in the nearby town of Tayum and try their hands at tie-dying at the Provincial Dye Center also in Tayum. “Masterpieces” of the participants will be displayed in an exhibit on May 3, at the Provincial Capitol to coincide with the culmination of the summer art workshop. # Frank Asia / PIA Abra
