Union files notice of strike against Lepanto |
||
BAGUIO CITY (Apr. 6) — The Lepanto Employees Union (LEU) filed a Notice of Strike (NOS) against the Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company (LCMCo) on April 5 at the National Mediation and Conciliation Board-Cordillera Administrative Region of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) as a result of the deadlock in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiations. The union wants to upgrade and add some provisions which they claimed are based on the actual needs of the workers. The management eventually denied the CBA proposals of the union in the negotiations and insisted limited adjustments and maintenance of the past CBA (series of 2001-2004). There were no minutes of the meeting on April 2 after the union declared a deadlock on the supposed 23rd CBA (series of 2005-2008) between the union and the management. Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU)–Cordillera Regional Coordinator Lorico “Ka Jun” Espejo said that as much as possible, the untoward incidents from the February 2003 LEU strike should not be repeated. Espejo however added that this will be the workers’ option if a constructive CBA is not achieved. A conciliation meeting between the union and the management was scheduled on April 11 at the NCMB-CAR in an effort to settle the dispute. # Aldwin Quitasol for NORDIS |
