CARLATAN, La Union (Feb. 23) — The College Editors Guild of the Philippines-La Union Chapter concluded its 4th Provincial Student Press Convention and Congress at Car Rille Hotel and Restaurant, here from Feb. 18-20. Over 40 students from various secondary and tertiary school publications participated in the event. With the theme “Magsulat nang Malaya, Magmulat at Magpalaya!”, workshop discussions on journalism skills, socio-political issues, including literature and the arts, were held. San Fernando City Councilor Ramon “Monching” Laudencia, who was the keynote speaker, encouraged campus writers to practice responsible journalism. “The test of success in (editorial) writing is a clearness of style; a moral purpose and sound reasoning, using the power of words to express what the writer conceives as the right course of action on an issue to influence public opinion”, he said. The Paragon, official publication of the La Union College of Nursing’s (LUCN), was recognized as the newest member-publication in the sad convention. Special elections will follow soon for the election of CEGP-La Union’s chairperson and vice-chairperson.
