Ifugao governor grants tax amnesty |
||
LAGAWE, IFUGAO (Jan. 27) — Ifugao Provincial Benjamin B. Cappleman directed the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to enact an ordinance granting amnesty to delinquent real property taxpayers of the province for the past ten years. The proposed amnesty ordinance aims to condone all penalties and surcharges, and mandates delinquent taxpayers to pay only the accumulated principal tax obligations during the previous years and the tax obligations subsequent to year 2004. The governor’s liberal move will provide relief to its constituents from the adverse impact of the national and global economic depression aggravated by the natural calamities that hit the province one after the other., and in anticipation of the newly enacted tax laws promulgated by the Arroyo administration. Majority of the constituents, including government-owned-and-controlled corporations, failed to pay their real property tax during the previous years. Records reveal that the actual collection of the province from the Basic Real Property tax collection and the additional tax for the Special Education Fund did not surpass the one million mark set by the national government notwithstanding the information drives in the localities. # Jenny Nanglihan/PIO Ifugao |
