UP holds Ifugao local history seminar

LAGAWE, IFUGAO (Jan.27) — The Ifugao Provincial Governor’s Office in partnership with the University of the Philippines-Baguio sponsored a two-day workshop-seminar on Ifugao local history on January 24-25 at the Ilob Village Inn, Banaue, Ifugao.

The activity aims to equip the local government units with the skills, knowledge and techniques in studying, and documenting their local histories which would eventually become part of general history.

Attended by representatives of the local government units, the seminar envisioned to come up with a written municipal history as a concrete output. This will be displayed during the Ifugao Foundation Day celebration on June 18, this year.

The resource persons of the activity came from the University of the Philippines-Baguio. They are Professors Raymond Rovillos, Anavic Bagamaspad, Leah Enkiwe-Abayao, Rowena Reyes-Boquiren and UPCB Vice-chancellor Maria Nela Florendo.

The UP Professors said that the Ifugao people are the most researched people but these researches are done mostly by foreigners. Only a few Ifugao writings were done by Ifugaos. Furthermore, most of these researches/writings about the Ifugaos are ethnography, not histories. # Jenny Nanglihan/PIO Ifugao
