ABRECO to correct systems lost

BANGUED, Abra (Jan. 22)—The Abra Electric Cooperative (ABRECO) plans to lower its 14% average systems loss this year.

ABRECO General Manager Atty. Marco Bautista said every 1% systems loss is equivalent to P 1 million. He explained that the 14% loss incurred in 2004 is equivalent to P4, 203, 920.

Bautista added that the company will concentrate on the non-technical problem that contributes to the said losses. He mentioned that this will involve among others the clearing of power lines from obstruction and a more concentrated effort of meter readers.

According to Bautista meter readers would record not just the monthly consumption of consumers but also note malfunctioning and defective meters and report them to the engineering department.

“Sixty percent of our member-consumers have facilities installed more than 20 years ago. There is a need to upgrade or replace some of their facilities especially their kilowatt meters,” Bautista said. He added that the upgrading program will take place during the first half of the month.

Meanwhile, Bautista disclosed that the remaining two barangays not yet served by ABRECO is expected to be energized before the end of May this year. He explained that due to the far location of Barangays Pacgued and Binasaran of Malibcong a generator set and solar system units will instead be installed. #Prescillano N.
