New cattle market on the rise

URDANETA CITY (Jan. 21) — The local government is investing its luck in one of the city’s prime economy, the cattle industry.

This January, the City Engineer’s Office has commenced the construction of the new cattle market located near the new city hall in Bgy. Anonas.

The project, occupying a 15 hectare portion of leveled fields was appropriated with P10 million budget by the local government and expected to boost the revenue in cattle trade this 2005.

Initial construction has paved way to an administration building while other facilities such as drainage and sewerage system, concrete road, perimeter fence are underway all amounting to 9.5 million.

Part of the construction is a new landfill area which will accommodate garbage disposed in the city.

City Engineer Macario Segundo said the domesticated animals will be transfered in April this year once the perimeter fence is in place.

The local government also designated an area within the facility where local cattle traders will be allowed to put up their own stalls.

The present cattle market reportedly owned by actress Barbara Perez, a relative of City Mayor Amadeo Perez, is being rented for P3,000.

“Cattle capital in the North” has been the city’s tag after its cityhood in 1998. # Jhong dela Cruz for NORDIS
