Baguio artists to hold exhibit, concert for human rights

Baguio artists led by Kidlat Tahimik, Tommy Hafalla, Darnay Demetillo, the Arkiw art group and Salidummay will hold a photo/art exhibit and mini-concert on peace and human rights on December 5 at the VOCAS Hall, 5th floor of the La Azotea Building in downtown Baguio.

The exhibit, dubbed Liwliwa para iti Kappia: Guhit at Himig Alay sa mga Biktima ng Karahasan, is being organized by the Dap-ayan ti Kultura iti Kordilyera (DKK) and the grassroots media group Northern Media and Information Network (NMIN) to commemorate International Human Rights Day on Dec. 10.

Eric Carreon, chairperson of the DKK, an alliance of musicians, theater activists and other artists in the Cordillera, said more than 10 visual artists and photographers will participate in the exhibit and offer some of their works for sale.

Proceeds from the sales will be donated to several Northern Luzon communities currently suffering from the adverse impact of militarization, Carreon added.

The exhibit will be open from 10 am to 7 pm. The mini-concert will be held at 4 pm at the same venue, and will feature Salidummay, Binhi, Ridaw, Sining ng Paglaya, Musikero ng Kordilyera, Nashville, and others.

The DKK will also launch its new songbook, Manag-ay Tako! , on the same occasion.

There will be a P20 entrance fee. # via NORDIS
