The youth held a march, dubbed “Death March”, in remembrance of the thousands of Filipinos who died during the Japanese invasion, and in protest against Aquino’s so-called “Tuwid na Daan”, which has dragged the people to poverty for five years and counting.

According to Cecille Baello of Youth Act Now – Metro Baguio, the youth are standing up to correct Aquino’s “Tuwid na Daan”, which in reality has brought the people suffering. The people, she added, are not experiencing any development as promised by the administration.

“Malinaw na walang pag-unlad sa tuwid na daan at dapat nating malaman na kung ito ay tatahakin pa, mas madadagdagan lamang ang suliraning kinakaharap ng mamamayang Pilipino. Panahon na para tayo ay tumalilis sa tuwid na daan at manawagan kay Aquino na tama na ang lahat ng pahirap na ito,” Baello said.

The group mentioned several failures of the government giving enough grounds for Aquino to step down. These include the administration’s lack of response against the increase of tuition and other school fees, the privatization of public hospitals including Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC), the ill treatment to ambulant vendors and unwillingness to provide them with livelihood, oil and basic commodity price hikes, the implementation of the faulty K-12 program despite the lack of readiness in all aspects, and the president’s refusal to be accountable for the death of 67 Filipinos in Mamasapano, Maguindanao, despite evidence affirming his involvement.

Baello added that it is just for the Filipino people to call for his ouster. She added that Youth Act Now, among other participating youth organizations, is taking on the challenge for the youth to lead and stand up against the continuing wrongdoings of Aquino’s administration.

The “Death March” started at Governor Pack Road, traversed Session Road, and ended at Malcolm Square, concluding with a short program. # nordis.net
