Benguet folk urge MGB to probe underground blasting

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Barangay officials and residents of Ucab, Itogon, Benguet urged the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) to conduct an immediate inspection on the reported underground blasting in Barangay Ucab.
Resolution No. 084 series of 2013 dated April 10, 2013 disclosed that residents of Sitios Miners Side and Upper Tram reported to the barangay council that activities of underground blasting specially underneath the said sitios are undertaken.
The Barangay Council of Ucab through Punong Barangay Eddie B. Daniel together with the concerned residents of the affected sitios conducted an ocular inspection and found out that the blasting activities are done by small scale miners.
That the miners passed through level 070 mining tunnel of Benguet Corporation and cracks are already visible on the surface and residential houses at the said sitios,
The council requests MGB to conduct inspection and implement necessary measures to prevent untoward accidents that may happen in the future.
