Adivay 2012 to empower senior citizens, kids

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — Benguet Governor Nestor Fongwan announced that the celebration of the 112th founding anniversary will not only focus on promoting the local products and tourism of the province but also on the empowerment of sectors including senior citizens, children in conflict with the law, and victims of child abuse and domestic violence.

He also said that Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW’s) who were originally from Benguet or “I-Benguet ay nan Abroad” who are on vacation or whose contracts already ended will take on a big role in the celebration. He added that instead of celebrating Adivay in their respective working places, they will be invited to be participate in the programs and activities.
Vice -Governor Crescencio Pacalso added that forums and knowledge sharing will be held as part of the celebration. The said forums will be attended by different agriculturist in the country and will be having knowledge sharing regarding experiments and new technologies that will help Benguet farmers producing more quality products.
He said that education and information campaigns that tackle environment, vegetable industry, small-scale mining will be launched. He added that there will also be a Regional Development Council’s meeting.
Pacalso said they are planning to institutionalize some activities of the Adivay celebrations as permanent events.
Adivay activities include an agro-industrial trade fair focusing on the native products of the 13 municipalities will take place from November 13 to 24 along with the different activities such as Canao, diskwento Caravan, civic parade and fireworks on November 23.
Mass weddings are staged on November 13 at Saint Jose Parish church in La trinidad, November 14 at Saint Joseph parish Church in Mankayan and November 15 at Saint Paul Parish Church in Tuba. Medical/surgical mission and photo exhibit on November 16. The search for Mr. and Ms. Benguet 2012 coronation night is set on Novemner 17.
Skills competition on automotive servicing, commercial cooking and bar tending is set on November 18.
Other activities include the Awit para sa Kalikasan or environmental-cultural song competition on November 19; acrobatic and magic shows, Dongba ni kabadjo or horse racing, silent drill of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) cadets on November 24. Sports tournament started last September 13 until December 1.
November 23 is declared as special non-working day in the province. # nordis.net
