Rats damaged 1,890 hectares rice land

CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela — The Cauayan City agriculture office has registered 1, 890 hectares planted rice land damaged by rat infestation which began last month. City agriculture office chief Rufino Arcega this affected 24 of the 65 barangays in the city.
The city agriculture office has started an information campaign to avert more damage on rice plants which may affect rice yield this cropping season. #

2 mild quakes jolt Northern Luzon

SINAIT, Ilocos Sur – A mild 2.7 magnitude tremor jolted the mountainous areas of Ilocos Sur Wednesday night reported Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) here Thursday. Phivolcs researcher Porferio De Peralta reported it occurred at 9:07 p.m. with epicenter four kilometers southeast of San Emilio, and a depth of 25 kilometers. He said that the quake was tectonic in origin.
Phivolcs also reported that a few minutes before this quake, a 2.9 magnitude tremor, at 9:04 p.m. Wednesday, with its epicenter 22 kilometers southeast of Calayan, Cagayan and a depth of 60 kilometers. The quake was also tectonic. #

Village chief gunned down

SAN MATEO, Isabela — The village chief of Barangay Marasat Pequenio here was gunned down by two motorcycle-riding gunmen at about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Barangay Daramuangan Sur in this town, police said on Thursday.
Police Senior Supt. Franklin Moises Mabanag, Isabela police director, identified the fatality as John Cu, 37-year-old, Marasat Pequenio barangay chairman and a car trader. Cu sustained three bullet wounds on the back from a cal. 45 handgun. Cu and his friend, Ferdinand Narciso who rode another motorcycle, were slowly cruising the road on their way home when two men, riding-in-tandem, cut them and one man shot Cu. #

Capitol offers free Laoag airport shuttle

LAOAG CITY — The provincial government has provided free shuttle service for passengers arriving at the Laoag International Airport without an arranged vehicle to take them to the city proper. The shuttle bus is deployed at the airport to fetch passengers arriving at anytime of the day through the three domestic carriers Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific and Air Philippines. #
