Separate electric coop endorsed by mayor

BAGUIO CITY — Mayor Mauricio Domogan has backed the council resolution asking for a separate electric cooperative for the city, even as he is open to a comprehensive study of the proposal. Also, Congressman Bernardo Vergara has filed this at the House of Congress; as House Bill 5518.

Baguio Electric Cooperative (BAELCO) seeks separation from Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) which triggered adverse reactions from different sectors, line agencies and even local government units. Also, member-consumers who attended the BENECO general assembly in Bokod, Benguet gave dissenting opinions on the proposed separation.. #

City pursues OTOP identification

BAGUIO CITY — The city will pursue the identification of its One Town, One Product (OTOP). Mayor Mauricio Domogan last week created a technical working group to determine the OTOP to be chaired by city budget officer Leticia Clemente.

The technical working group will be composed of the chairman of the council committee on employment and livelihood, the Dept. of Trade and Industry provincial director, city planning and development coordinator, Dept. of Tourism regional director, and presidents of the Baguio Market Vendors Association and Baguio-Benguet Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. The group was given a month to achieve its task.

The OTOP program also known as the “Isang Bayan, Isang Produkto, Isang Milyong Piso” was institutionalized via Executive Order No. 176 dated February 11, 2003 aimed at stimulating “domestic economic activities in the countryside. #

Anti Child Abuse Network plans for 2012

BAGUIO CITY — The Anti-Child Abuse Network (ACAN) conducted its year-end evaluation for its performance in 2011 and planning workshop for 2012 at the Child and Family Service Philippines (CFSPI) office last January 11.

PSSupt. Pedro A. Austria, Jr. Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Regional Chief and ACAN Chairman said that because of the team effort of the ACAN partner – agencies, last year’s activities of the network have been successfully carried out. The workshop determined the network’s direction and plan for 2012. They crafted its’ after an extensive SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis. #
