NCIP approves ancestral domain of IPs in Cagayan

TUGUEGARAO CITY — Some 2,637 indigent people of Cagayan will be receiving the soonest possible time their Certificate of Ancestral Domain Titles (CADTs) from the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP).

Mr. Raymundo Ottao, Interim Provincial Officer-NCIP Cagayan, revealed that NCIP has approved CADTs for more than 200, 000 hectares of ancestral lands that will be distributed to Ibatan and Agta tribes of the province.

The Ibatans in Babuyan Claro, Calayan will be given 88,924 hectares for 1,221 beneficiaries. The Ibatan tribe was the latest discovered IP group in the country.

The CADTs of 378 Agtas in Baggao were already approved with 38, 500 hectares while the claims of some 1,038 Agtas from Gonzaga, Lallo, Buguey and Sta. Teresita were also approved with total land area of 107, 900 hectares.

“The NCIP is currently processing and working for the approval of the ancestral domain claims of 13 other IP groups in different parts of the province,” Ottao said.

On the other hand, NCIP was able to reach out IPs through medical missions and skills trainings and handicraft making.

On their livelihood programs, they distributed carabaos for dispersal to different IP groups and provided school supplies to students.

Ottao also disclosed that they will assist in a spring development project this summer in Sta. Ana Cagayan that will benefit IPs in the area.
