Roadusers seek SP att’n on accident-prone hi-way

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (Aug. 17) – The Benguet Truckers and Tradersf Association (BTTA) sought the assistance of the Benguet provincial board to call the attention of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to implement remedial measures on accident-prone portions of the Marcos Highway.

BTTA complained about a portion of the Marcos Highway particularly from the Suello gas station in front of the Green Valley gate in Baguio City to the bridge along Badiwan, Tuba, stating it is steep and slippery. # S.C. Aro/PIA-Benguet

Lista mayor is Ifugao LMP president

LAGAWE, Ifugao (Aug. 17) —Mayor Charles Catilling of Alfonso Lista was elected as president of the League of Mayors in the Province (LMP), here.

The newly elected set of officers are mayors Ceasario Cabbigat (Lagawe), Vice-president; Romeo Chulana (Mayoyao), Secretary; Jonathan M. Cuyahon (Kiangan), Treasurer; Francis P. Tenenan (Lamut), Auditor; Ramon N. Tinawi (Hingyon), Business Manager and Lino A. Madchiw (Banaue), Press Relations Officer.

Ifugao reports P242M crop damage due to drought

LAGAWE, Ifugao – The provincial government through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG) has reported a total crop damage amounting to P241,999,551.15 covering four municipalities in the province due to the dry spell.

The affected municipalities include Aguinaldo, Alfonso Lista, Lamut and Lagawe. Based on the latest Municipal Agriculture Offices report, a total of 14,371 farmers who planted rice, corn, vegetables and fruit trees were affected. # Jina Shirley G. Dacmay/PIA Ifugao

SP asks senators to fund FMRs for Kalinga

TABUK CITY (Aug. 17) — The Kalinga provincial requested the Department of Agriculture (DA) and some senators to allocate P17 million for the construction and improvement of Farm to Market Roads (FMRs) in Kalinga.

In separate resolutions the board asked the DA, Senators Panfilo Lacson, Rodolfo Biazon and Antonio Trillanes to allocate P2 million for the construction of the Paligatto-Balawag road, P5 million for the improvement of the Dagupan West road, both in Tabuk City, P5 million for the improvement of the Balawag-Suyang road, P5 million for the construction of the Taloctoc-Pangao in Tanudan. # GGD/PIA-Kalinga

Kalinga exhibitor wins best booth in trade fair

TABUK CITY (Aug. 17) – Marie Saclag, an exhibitor from Kalinga bested 184 exhibitors from Luzon in the One Town One Product (OTOP) Trade Fair last August 8 to 12 at the SM Mega Mall in Metro-Manila.

Saclag’s Ayatu’s Ethnic Crafts booth displayed a variety of Kalinga ethnic products like baskets, woven cloths, beads, bags, antiques and gift items. Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Kalinga reports said seven exhibitors from the province joined the trade fair. # PIA-Kalinga
