JICA-assisted health project doing good

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (Aug. 10) – The P125 million five–year project on strengthening provincial local health systems aimed to improve the quality of health services in the province is doing good says Japanese consultant for primary health care Makoto Tobe.

Two long weekends in August

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (Aug. 10) — This August, the country will have two long weekends following the signing into law of Republic Act 9492 or Rationalizing the Celebration of National Holidays, which mandates that holidays, except those with religious significance, are to be moved to the nearest Monday.

This will first be effected on the Ninoy Aquino Day which falls on August 21, a Tuesday, which will now be automatically moved to August 20, Monday. National Heroes Day which is celebrated every last Sunday of August will also be moved to last Monday of August. #PIA-Cordillera

DA looks forward for CHARM 2

TABUK CITY (Aug 10) – The Department of Agriculture (DA)-Cordillera Region looks forward to the extension of the Cordillera Highland Agricultural Resources Management (CHARM) project with an initial P137 million budget proposal for 2008.

Diasen challenges agriculturists to address malnutrition

TABUK CITY (Aug 10) – Kalinga Governor Floydelia Diasen challenged the Department of Agriculture (DA) and local agriculturists to deliver the people of the province from malnutrition and hunger.

Kalinga, considered as the rice bowl of the Cordillera, suffers from hunger and malnutrition as shown by the latest Social Weather Station (SWS) survey. # GGD/PIA-Kalinga

Ifugao to strengthen enterprise, livelihood

LAGAWE, Ifugao – Ifugao Governor Teddy Baguilat Jr. instructed the Office of the Provincial Agriculture (OPAG) to strengthen enterprise and livelihood programs in the province to generate employment and investment.

Baguilat noted that improvement in the agriculture industry would provide long term solution to unemployment. He said existing products should be promoted instead of thinking of new products. Ifugao LGU enacts “Eye Care” Ordinance

LAGAWE, Ifugao (Aug. 10) – In line with the Department of Health’s (DOH) Vision 2020, the Ifugao Provincial Board enacted an Eye Care Ordinance institutionalizing eye care services.

The Ordinance also includes training of Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) and public elementary school teachers for eye care services. Social Welfare Officer commends staff for DSWD ranking

LAGAWE, Ifugao (Aug. 10) – The Department of Social Welfare and Development(DSWD)-Ifugao ranked number one in the approval rating for performance in the July 2007 Pulse Asia .

Two Kalinga micro-entrepreneurs cited

TABUK CITY (Aug. 10) – The Bago-Ilokano-Tagalog-Igorot-Cagayano-Kalinga (BITICK) and Women’s Organization and Chico River Quest Inc. (CRQI), both from Kalinga were cited for their outstanding performance in micro-entrepreneurship by Presidential Consultant for Entrepreneurship Jose Conception III during the Go Negosyo Teen Edition in Baguio City recently.

BITICK is engaged in food processing particularly in the production of Tabuk Wine, which popularized Tapey or rice wine. CRQI promoted kayaking adventure through the Chico River rapids in Kalinga. # L. Lopez/PIA Kalinga
