< 1 MIN READ

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (Jan. 18) — Benguet residents are getting a tax amnesty on unpaid real property tax this year after the Benguet Provincial Board passed on final reading Provincial Ordinance 115-06 during its January 15 session.

The tax relief covers interests and surcharges of real property taxes from 2006 and previous year. Local residents may avail of the tax amnesty until June 30, 2007.

The ordinance provides that to avail of the said amnesty, delinquent taxpayers must pay the whole tax due up to the current year. It adds that no public auction of delinquent properties shall be held during the period of amnesty.

However, the ordinance specifies that the amnesty shall not apply to real properties already disposed in public auction, properties with pending real property tax delinquency cases in court and properties that are subject to existing compromise agreements.

The ordinance also mentioned that if taxpayers fail to avail of the amnesty, the real property tax delinquencies due shall remain at its original costs and the corresponding penalty imposed. # Kim Quitasol for NORDIS
